Two just happens to be my lucky number. I am freakishly paranoid about numbers. So it just made a lot of sense to do this starting with Brooke's 2nd birthday.
There are two things that you should know about this blog:
1. All the images will be captured with a regular phone camera. I use an iPhone but it certainly is not the best camera phone out there. Why a phone when I have access to a great camera? Because while I LOVE my SLR, I want this to be about capturing real memories, real moments, personality and our normal life. As I hold my SLR, it becomes more about capturing the perfect image or portrait but more importantly than that, it's too time consuming and I don't want that to be a deterrent for doing this. I bring my phone with me every where I go, it's easy to use and all the editing the world will not make it into a perfect portrait so not only will that save me time (yah!) but it will keep me focused on the purpose of this project and hopefully ensure that I complete it!
2. Once I complete this project, all the posts will be published to a small photo book (small because the files from my phone are also small unfortunately). I'm sure a lot of you can relate to having the best intentions for doing something with all those photos on your computer and just never having time to actually do it. With a blog (only available with certain platforms), you can create a Blog Book. It takes all your blog posts and automatically lays them out into pre-designed pages. So far it sounds too good to be true but when I get to that point, I will report back and let you know how easy it actually is.
One day, when Brooke is old enough, she will get this book (and hopefully more to come). Whether I am fortunate enough to be in this world for a long time, or not, I want these to tell the story of our life, through my eyes. Every image will include some text either explaining the memory or it will have some words of advice from mom.
I'm sure I'll miss some days along the way but I know that the end results will be worth every minute!
I hope this blog, or the ones that I mentioned earlier, will inspire you to take on your own project for your family. Images that you capture, are captured forever. Our memory is choosy and forgetful at times but photographs will remember small memories, little details, long after we have forgotten.
