Last year when Whoopi Goldberg lost her mother she said something really profound and it has stuck with me ever since...she said "who will love me the way that my mom did?"...it made me think about my relationship with my mom and my little girl and there really is no love like it and the thought of losing that kind of love is unimaginable.
I've had the opportunity to work with some amazing moms and over time I have developed a soft spot for capturing images of moms and their babes and I only hope they look back at these images years from now and smile as they remember the time.
Even as a photographer, I know what it's like to pick apart pictures of yourself and not like what you see and even avoid getting pictures taken because you feel that you are unphotogenic. To add to that, we are the ones that are always taking the pictures. Let's all make a commitment to break that habit and make it a priority to hand off the camera and let someone else capture the picture - regardless of how we look or feel that day. Are you in?!?!?
Thank you to all the moms that have been part of my joyful emotion journey, I hope your mother's day was filled with laughter, love and celebration.
(my best friend is about to become a mom in a few short weeks - I'm SOO excited for her!!)
My beautiful mom and my baby girl...I love you soo much:)
Fairmont is one of our favorite spots to get away and relax. Last September we took some time to enjoy the mountains with my parents and just had a wonderful time hiking, swimming, eating, feeding squirrels, chasing deer and sining the bears away!
Back in November, my bridesmaides threw me the bridal shower of the century!! I can honestly say that it was the best party I've been to - from the food, to the decor, the venue, games and dance lessons (yes, they hired instructors to come out and teach us how to salsa!), it was beyond fabulous.
The desert table that starts off this post was done by Vania of Canadian Hostess - a dear friend who happens to be crazy talented when it comes to event planning. Check out her blog for more party ideas, inspiration and of course to contact her if you need a creative mind to help you out with your party planning.
I have the best friends a girl could ask for! Thanks everybody for making this such an incredible night!
P.S. While I did pick up my camera for the first 1/2 hour, I decided to enjoy the party so the pictures you see below in black and white were captured by Vania. Thanks Vania:)
I realized today how long it has been since I last worked on some of my own family photographs...much too long. Life is as hectic as can be get right now...so much to do, so little time... and in the midst of it all, I feel really blessed for all that I have in my life (as crazy and overwhelming as it can get at times).
I love any kind of literature that inspires me in some way - whether it inspires me to do better, or makes me feel good about life and reminds me of how lucky I am. I came across this quote today and wanted to share. It's very simple and I'm sure a lot of mothers can relate to what it has to say:
“There is no way to be a perfect mother, and a million ways to be a good one” – Jill Churchill
My baby girl had to get some surgery done today - as a mom, it's soo hard to watch them go through that:( We were at the Royal Alex and the nurses there were AMAZING - they really made us feel like we were in good hands and genuinely cared about our situation - I have so much respect for the nursing profession. She was such a brave little girl and I am soo proud of her.
It was Brooke's great-grandmother's 90th birthday on August 7th (happens to be my birthday too!). We celebrated in Coleville, Saskatchewan. The whole day was a ton of fun, with lots of fun games, great food, lovely people and fantastic fireworks to end the night. I'm happy to share parts of the day with you:)
