Last year when Whoopi Goldberg lost her mother she said something really profound and it has stuck with me ever since...she said "who will love me the way that my mom did?"...it made me think about my relationship with my mom and my little girl and there really is no love like it and the thought of losing that kind of love is unimaginable.
I've had the opportunity to work with some amazing moms and over time I have developed a soft spot for capturing images of moms and their babes and I only hope they look back at these images years from now and smile as they remember the time.
Even as a photographer, I know what it's like to pick apart pictures of yourself and not like what you see and even avoid getting pictures taken because you feel that you are unphotogenic. To add to that, we are the ones that are always taking the pictures. Let's all make a commitment to break that habit and make it a priority to hand off the camera and let someone else capture the picture - regardless of how we look or feel that day. Are you in?!?!?
Thank you to all the moms that have been part of my joyful emotion journey, I hope your mother's day was filled with laughter, love and celebration.
(my best friend is about to become a mom in a few short weeks - I'm SOO excited for her!!)
My beautiful mom and my baby girl...I love you soo much:)
Almost seven years ago I met my best friend while traveling to Thailand. We were part of the same travel group and I knew I would need to find someone to hang out with that had the same interests as I did - which basically involved doing things other than drinking and partying the whole time;-) Despeare to find a travel buddy, I introduced myself to Lori and the rest, as they say, is history. We spent the most amazing 40 days together traveling around Thailand - from cooking classes with Phum, to exploring deathly caves, elephant treks, monkey madness, temple "meditation", yoga on the beach under the morning sun, rock climbing, moonlight party madness, sun bathing, bargain shopping and more massages than I can remember...it was an experience I will never forget.
To me, Lori is one of those rare, once-in-a-lifetime friends that you can't imagine your life without. She is beautiful, passionate, real and inspiring. Not only is she a successful business owner of Budget Blinds in Sherwood Park but she is less than two courses away from getting her Master's Degree from the U of A - she is one awesome lady.
We took these photos at Lori's home in Sherwood Park - which by the way is one of the nicest homes I have seen (aside from the Full House Lottery grand prize homes this year - WOW, you must check them out!). I don't generally take photos inside a home (unless it's a newborn session) but made an exception this time because I knew she had so much room, light and great design to work with. For the second part of our shoot we headed over to the U of A campus to celebrate her achievement and to soak up the beautiful sun we had that day.
Congratulations Lori and Ryan...this little baby is without a doubt lucky to have you two as parents and I know that he/she will be surrounded by so much passion and love. I CANNOT wait to meet the little peanut!!
Brenda and Lee are expecting a baby girl in just a few short weeks!! I loved the connection between this couple, it made these photos very magical. I feel very lucky to have met and photographed them at this stage of their life. I hope you enjoy the results!
Where do I begin?! I'll be the first to admit that this session didn't exactly go as planned...after several emails back and forth trying to find a date that worked for us both we finally found a date only to find out that we would have to reschedule again due to a rainy day:( So when we finally got together I locked my keys in the car at our first location and when we finally got to our next location it started to rain. Regardless of the issues we had to deal with, I think these pictures are quite magical. What a beautiful family, I can't wait to finish off the rest of our session...on the beach...keeping my fingers crossed for good weather:)
